In language learning, speaking is not an easy skill to master. There are several obstacles and challenges that must be faced by learners in learning it. These obstacles and challenges are related to several factors (internal factors and external factors) that can affect learners' speaking ability. Internal factors include learners' motivation, confidence, and interest in learning to speak, while external factors involve the environment, the use of the mother tongue, and methods and media used in the speaking learning process. Researcher utilizes YouTube application as a learning medium that focuses on improving students' speaking ability. Therefore, this research aims to (1) Analyze how is the influence of digital literacy by utilizing YouTube on the speaking ability of grade XI students at SMA N 1 Kaliwiro. (2) Analyze how does the speaking ability of students taught using YouTube media differ from students taught using conventional media. The sample use in this research is amounted to 66 students, with 33 students each for class XI Science 2 and 33 students for class XI Science 3 SMA N 1 Kaliwiro. The method used in this research is a quantitative method with experimental design. School-based Oral Assessment (SBOA) form is the main instrument use in this research. Through SBOA, the test results (pre-test and post-test) of the control group and experimental group are obtained. After carrying out posttest, as additional data, the researcher provides 15 questions in the form of a questionnaire relate to students' opinions regard the YouTube application. The scores obtain then be analyzed and process by the SPSS. The statistical method used is parametric analysis, by conducting an Independent Sample t-Test hypothesis test. The results of this research are showed by the results of the Normalized Gain Test with a score for the experimental class (YouTube) being 64.13 or 64% include in the moderately effective category. These results show that there does the speaking ability of students taught using YouTube media differ from students taught using conventional media.
